Apple South Africa has announced that its sales for the first half of 2000 have increased significantly, compared to the same period in 1999. Overall sales have increased by 32%, while iBook and iMac sales increased by 68% compared to the same period last year.
"Apple`s sales have increased worldwide, with the company achieving the best sales figures ever earlier this year," explains country manager, Bruno Verolini. "This trend has been mirrored in South Africa, with the increase in sales being attributed to a significant increase in customer confidence and a strengthened distribution and sales channel.
"Apple`s colourful iMac is currently the world`s number one selling desktop personal computer, with nearly 4 million machines having been sold since its release in August 1998. Almost 250,000 portable iBooks were sold in the US within three months of its release, making iBook the best selling consumer notebook in US history."
"We are also delighted that more than 50 million copies of our QuickTime 4 player software have been downloaded by Mac and Windows users worldwide," adds Verolini. "QuickTime offers the best cross-platform desktop video quality anywhere, with both Macintosh and Windows versions being available."
"Apple currently has the strongest product set ever," says Brian Seligmann, marketing manager at Apple South Africa. "The entire product line-up is entirely new, from iMac to G4 desktops. The advent of colour choice has also had a profound effect - it seems that our customers just love being able to choose a computer to fit their surroundings, be it home, or office."
