Application Security debuts AppRadar 3.1

Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2006

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African distributor for Application Security, today announced the latter's debut of AppRadar 3.1, the award-winning AppRadar solution that combines world-class database security with intelligent, real-time monitoring and auditing to defend against database vulnerabilities while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements.

This unique approach helps to provide the reliability and scalability required for high-volume enterprise use. The advances in AppRadar 3.1 enhance the leading solution for database activity monitoring, further strengthening the industry's leading database security suite.

AppRadar 3.1 increases capabilities across the Oracle platform, adding host-based Sensors for Oracle on Solaris and Linux platforms, and providing additional security and auditing capabilities. With AppRadar 3.1, users can now track the activities of privileged users at the database host for Oracle, alert on local Oracle database threats, and provide enhanced protections for their database assets with up-to-date security awareness for Oracle.

AppRadar remains the industry's only offering to secure key database applications with confidence by providing the application-specific, real-time monitoring necessary to prevent attacks and support compliance. AppRadar is unique in the breadth of its real-time monitoring coverage and the context it provides to optimise security and compliance efforts. While monitoring millions of events as they happen, AppRadar protects databases against internal and external attacks and alerts on abuse or misuse without degrading database performance.

In addition to its monitoring/security auditing and intrusion detection capabilities, key features in AppRadar 3.1 include:
* Exclusive ASAP Update support
* Advanced alerting
* Streamlined management
* Expanded 'best practices' support
* Industry-leading compliance templates to help meet various requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, FISMA and PCI

Drawing on its unique functionality, AppRadar immediately detects and alerts on database threats like SQL injection and even new variants of known attacks, as well as misuse such as a legitimate user's attempt to steal customer credit card data. As a result of its market proven approach to database activity monitoring, AppRadar helps to cut through the clutter of meaningless alerts and focuses in on both the critical security issues and significant audit events that could signal a security breach or other compliance risk.

According to Matt Benati, Director of Product Management at AppSecInc: "With massive data exposure occurring as a result of both valid and invalid use of data, the criticality of monitoring - in real-time - how and by whom that data is taken from the database is more essential than ever. AppRadar is the premier industry platform for database activity monitoring, and we are pleased to offer support for the most prevalent platforms in use by enterprises - providing our customers with maximum deployment flexibility to help keep their data secure."

AppRadar is part of AppSecInc's complete database security suite, acknowledged as the only of its kind in the industry. This suite uniquely allows organisations to extend the vulnerability management methodology they use to secure their network and general-purpose hosts to include mission-critical databases. The company's products work in concert to intelligently discover database applications; assess and prioritise the level of specific risk; shield the assets during remediation; and monitor and audit all activity in real-time thereby grounding security and compliance efforts where data lives. The AppSecInc database security suite includes:

* AppDetective for database vulnerability assessment scanning
* AppRadar for real-time database activity monitoring
* DbEncrypt for column-level database encryption
* AppSecInc Console for distributed management in an enterprise environment
