Application Security extends AppRadar database activity monitoring capabilities to support Oracle on Linux

Johannesburg, 22 Nov 2006

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African distributor for Application Security, today announced the latter's Oracle on Linux support in AppRadar - the industry's most comprehensive database activity monitoring and security auditing solution.

The award-winning AppRadar solution remains the industry's only offering to provide world-class database security with intelligent, real-time monitoring and auditing to defend against application vulnerabilities while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements.

This unique approach helps to provide the reliability and scalability required for high-volume, mission-critical enterprise use. By extending product support to include Oracle databases running on Linux, AppSecInc continues to respond to the security requirements of today's heterogeneous enterprise environments.

AppRadar is unique in the breadth of its real-time monitoring coverage, support for both host- and network-based deployment models, and the context it provides to optimise security and compliance efforts. While monitoring millions of events as they happen, AppRadar protects databases against internal and external attacks, alerting on abuse or misuse without degrading database performance.

As a result of its context-driven approach to database activity monitoring, AppRadar provides far more than just generic logging, auditing, or reporting facilities, but rather helps organisations cut through the clutter of meaningless alerts and focus on both the critical security issues and significant audit events that portend of a security breach or other compliance risk.

In contrast to standalone point solutions, AppRadar is part of AppSecInc's complete database security suite, acknowledged as the only of its kind in the industry. This suite uniquely allows organisations to extend the vulnerability management methodology they use to secure their network and general-purpose hosts to include mission-critical databases. The company's products work in concert to intelligently discover database applications; assess and prioritise the level of specific risk; shield the assets during remediation; and monitor and audit all activity in real-time thereby grounding security and compliance efforts where data lives. The AppSecInc database security suite includes:

* AppDetective for database vulnerability assessment scanning
* AppRadar for real-time database activity monitoring
* DbEncrypt for column-level database encryption
* AppSecInc Console for distributed management in an enterprise environment

According to Ted Julian, vice-president of marketing and strategy at AppSecInc, the decision to support Oracle on Linux within the AppRadar solution was driven by customer demand: "Oracle on Linux support is an extension of our goal to help organisations, particularly those with complex, heterogeneous environments, extend security to their database applications with industry-leading platform and deployment flexibility."

Julian continued: "Throughout the history of the AppSecInc product suite, we've offered broad support across the platforms most prevalent within large enterprises - Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, and Sybase. And in the case of AppRadar, we've done so without requiring them to choose a single deployment model by offering both host- and network-based for maximum deployment flexibility. By extending AppRadar's award-winning, market-proven monitoring to include Oracle on Linux, organisations can now include these systems in their response to today's mounting regulatory and security requirements."
