Process manufacturing industry software solution provider ApplyIT has appointed its first value-added reseller (VAR) outside of South Africa in SoliTech, an IT consultancy that focuses on operational solutions for industrial operations in the UK and Ireland.
The agreement will see the distribution of IntelliPERMIT, the automated plant clearances software developed and patented by AppyIT that forms part of the Aurora suite of safety, health, environment and quality (SHE-Q) and plant operations-related manufacturing solutions.
Founded in 2001 and headquartered in the UK, SoliTech specialises in the delivery of software solutions to meet the challenges faced by asset-intensive industries.
IntelliPERMIT controls the process by which clearances, or permits to work within an operating plant are prepared, authorised, issued and subsequently managed. The system focuses on enhancing plant safety by improving the integrity of and management control over the clearance process.
Based on the occupational and environmental hazards present, rules are applied to the precautions, preparations and personal protective equipment (PPE) required, ensuring that workers are aware of the hazards and adhere to the specified safety precautions.
"IntelliPERMIT reinforces safety best practice and a high level of SHE-Q transparency - at any time those operating the plant can see exactly what`s happening in every area of the plant, what clearances are active and what isolations are in place," says Gavin Halse, MD of ApplyIT.
"With the UK industry`s renewed focus on the Corporate Manslaughter Bill and anticipated changes to the legislation that will place greater accountability on company directors for deaths in the workplace, there comes greater emphasis on SHE-Q issues," says SoliTech MD John Wilson. "Management boards that have concerns over the consistency of permits to work will welcome the availability of a proven tool that can drastically reduce risk in the most dangerous areas of plant operations. There is no other permit to work solution available in the local or international market that has the depth and rich functionality that IntelliPERMIT does."
Work-related fatalities in the UK are highest in the heavy industry sectors of mining, petroleum and scrap recycling, making these the most hazardous places of work in the region.
The appointment of a partner in the UK forms part of ApplyIT`s plans to market and sell IntelliPERMIT into global markets. Similar VAR appointments are being established in Australasia.
