Green IT has become a big issue in the tech sector as of late, as climate change grows in importance. Many companies are going green not only for the benefit to the environment, but to save energy and, subsequently, money.

As Gartner explains, the intense power requirements needed to run and cool centres now account for almost a quarter of global carbon dioxide emissions from ICT.

More information about the ITWeb Green IT Summit 2008, which takes place on 12 August 2008 at The Forum in Bryanston is available online here.

This year, on 12 August at The Forum in Bryanston, ITWeb will hold its first Green IT Summit. Opening the floor to discussions about technology and the green agenda, this summit is aimed at any business decision-maker with control of their company's environmental choices.

Much debate has raged over eco-efficiency overseas, and now it's time to discuss this in the context of SA.

This summit will discuss the relevant issues of today, such as exactly how green one needs to be, what the pay-off is for going green, and what is being done about e-waste.

Speakers include Steve Nunn, senior executive of green IT at Accenture, who will be speaking about green IT beyond the data centre; Mervyn King, author of the King Committee Report, discussing sustainability in ; and Keith Anderson, ITA president and COO of Axiz, who will be discussing e-waste.
