Area launches most powerful server
Area Electronics Systems has launched its most powerful server platform to date at the LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco, ArriveNet reports.
The product is designed for enterprise-critical database high-performance computing and high-definition video rendering applications.
Named the Areasys 3400, the new 3U rack-mount platform is based on AMD Opteron Series 800 64-bit processors incorporating direct connect architecture, which eliminates front-side buses to improve I/O and optimise memory performance.
Up to four PCI Express X8 channels and four 1Gbps Ethernet links are supported through dual ServerWorks Hyper Transport 2000 chipsets, which together provide up to 4GB of bidirectional I/O.
New server-monitoring tool launched
Tango/04 Computing Group`s Visual Control for Windows 9, which the Spanish software developer launched last week, helps iSeries shops keep the performance of their Windows, Unix, and Linux applications in-line with service level agreements, reports ITJungle.
The product offers additional Windows server monitoring and control capabilities, adds support for simple network management protocol devices, including Unix and Linux servers, and allows administrators monitor it all from a single console.
Visual Control for Windows is a systems management tool aimed at helping administrators spot performance problems before they affect users, and provides a graphical "cockpit" where administrators can monitor a variety of metrics for iSeries and Windows servers.
It also sends out alerts using e-mail and SMS and houses historical performance data, which allows administrators to drill down this data and generate reports.
