The Key School for Specialised Education is a Non Profit Organisation that was founded 35 years ago. The school was chosen by Aricent SA as it provides intervention to children between the ages of 3 and 13 years with the disabling condition known as autism. Autism and related disorders prevent normal social, intellectual, language and educational development. Experience internationally has shown that children with autism do well - some go on to lead near-normal lives when provided the right specialised environment. The Key School provides various programs including speech therapy, occupational therapy, play skills, behaviour management, classroom intervention, remedial therapy, self sufficiency and computer skills.
There are only eight such schools in South Africa and The Key School for Specialised Education is the only one of two in the Johannesburg area and it is situated in Parktown.
Such institutions provide a valuable service to society, and it is often done without much-needed aid or assistance in any form. We believe our contribution to The Key School will make a positive difference to the lives of autistic children," said Elsje de Wit, MD of Aricent SA.
Jenni Gous, principal at The Key School is thrilled with the donation provided. "We have put the money Aricent donated to us towards a much-needed heavy duty laminating machine, as we constantly need to make our own materials as well as communication systems for our children with little or no functional speech. We have had laminators in the past but because they are used so much, they often die or cause problems! We have now bought a large, robust laminating machine which should serve us well for a long time to come. The Key School wishes to sincerely thank Aricent for their support. It is great to know that we can offer our children our best because of donations like theirs."
