Enterprise data integration leader Ascential Software has announced results for the second quarter ended 30 June 2004, revealing a 62% increase in revenue compared to the same quarter last year.
On a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis, second-quarter 2004 revenue was $64.7 million, while second quarter 2003 revenue was $39.9 million.
Licence revenue was $25 million in Q2 2004, up 19% from the licence revenue of $21 million reported in Q2 2003. Net income was $1.2 million, or $0.02 per diluted share for Q2 2004, compared with net income of $0.7 million, or $0.01 per diluted share in Q2 2003.
"Ascential continues to make progress in a challenging and highly disciplined information technology spending environment, although chairman and CEO Peter Gyenes believes the second quarter results could have been remarkably better," says Julian Field, MD of local Ascential distributor CenterField Software.
On a pro forma basis, net income was $2.7 million, or $0.05 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2004, compared with a pro forma net income of $3 million, or $0.05 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2003. At the end of this quarter, the company had $471 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments.
"Data integration is increasingly being recognised for its strategic business impact and is therefore growing in importance within corporate IT initiatives," Field says. "Ascential`s continued growth in services revenue, especially in professional services, reflects the increasing customer adoption and expanded deployment of the company`s offerings."
For the full year 2004, Ascential anticipates revenue of $265 million, barring unforeseen circumstances. The company is anticipating third-quarter revenue of $65 million. Costs and expenses are expected to be the same as in the second quarter.
"We are seeing strong demand for enterprise data integration solutions, as measured by the continuing growth in pipeline opportunities," Field says. " Ascential`s approach to market, the recent release of version 7.5 of the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite, and the leapfrog release codenamed `Hawk` will drive new benefits and utility for our customers."
