UK consultancy Bloor Research has given Ascential Software, the world`s leading enterprise data integration vendor, its highest possible accolade in an independent report released late last year. The report highlights Ascential as the only vendor in its space to offer a complete enterprise integration suite.
"Over the past few years most vendors in the ETL (extraction, transformation and load) market have either headed for niche sectors or have diversified. Ascential is the only supplier to have focused exclusively on its core competency. This leaves the company in a particularly strong position as the only vendor that can meet these requirements. We therefore expect Ascential to build on and consolidate its leadership post in this market," notes Bloor in its report.
Bloor states that it is the depth of the suite that sets it apart: "Each of the individual components within the Enterprise Integration suite is a quality product in its own right but what really distinguishes Ascential`s offering is that no other vendor in this market offers a complete data integration environment such as this. Yes there are individual tools and, arguably, some of these may be preferred in particular instances, but no other vendor can match the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite for its breadth, depth and scalability."
The report points out that Ascential has used the cash gained from IBM after the acquisition of former owner Informix to build its suite of enterprise integration offerings: in the last 15 months it has acquired Torrent Systems and Vality Technology and acquired the rights to Metarecon from Metagenix.
Recalling these events, Bloor predicts: "Given its existing leadership in ETL, it is likely that Ascential`s extension into other areas of data integration (quality assurance and data cleansing in particular) will mean that Ascential will come to be regarded as THE data integration company."
"The endorsement from Bloor underscores the extent to which the market has come to understand and buy in to Ascential`s strategy and overall value proposition," says Julian Field, MD of local Ascential distributor CenterField Software. "Data integration, and integration as a whole, is becoming top-of-the-agenda for the market. Customers stand to benefit significantly from having a one-stop vendor for all their requirements in this domain, and it is pleasing to see Bloor take the lead in acknowledging this."
Bloor underscores this point: "It is worth noting that although we have referred to data integration it would perhaps be more accurate to omit the `data`. The sort of integration facilities that Ascential provides are as useful in application integration or in deploying enterprise portals as they are in conventional data warehousing or data migration environments."
