AST Enterprise Solutions Management (ESM), a business unit of the AST Group, has announced the release of Quest Software`s StorageXpert, which will extend the breadth of its performance management suite.
AST ESM is the sole distributor for Quest Software in Southern Africa.
StorageXpert provides a complete view of an application by collecting and correlating performance metrics for all of its components. The addition of StorageXpert broadens AST ESM`s performance management suite by addressing the storage component of an application`s performance.
By collecting Input/Output (I/O) performance metrics at the storage device level and relating that information back to the application, StorageXpert accelerates application response time and maximises the customer`s current investments in IT storage hardware.
"Storage systems are typically the slowest and most expensive component of the application architecture and tuning this component is critical to optimal system performance," explains Geoff van den Bosch, MD of AST ESM. "StorageXpert provides a single view exposing the relationship between database requests and the storage devices servicing those requests. This view enables database administrators, developers, and system administrators to isolate the root cause of I/O related problems."
"In today`s economy customers must leverage their current investments," adds Van den Bosch. "StorageXpert is the perfect solution for ensuring storage investments are utilised for maximum efficiency."
StorageXpert provides a view into any vendor`s physical storage device and includes enhanced capabilities for viewing Veritas logical storage devices. Enhanced capabilities for additional storage vendors will be added to future versions of StorageXpert.
In addition to rapidly and accurately identifying storage bottlenecks, StorageXpert integrates with additional performance management solutions from Quest for resolution of system-wide performance issues. These solutions include Space Manager, to recover and reorganise wasted disk space; and SQLab Vision, a powerful Oracle tuning environment with impact analysis capabilities and expert tuning advice.
