AST MSI, a business unit of the AST Group, has been awarded the electrical and control system installation at BMW`s new preparation plant in Rosslyn. The installation is the first phase of the overall contract, which was awarded to Wetron GmbH, a German company that secured the initial order from BMW Germany.
The Rosslyn plant, near Pretoria, was the BMW Group`s first foreign location. Over 3 500 employees manufacture up to 250 components for the BMW 3 Series daily. A quarter of these automobiles are sold in SA; three-quarters of them are exported.
"As Wetron`s local implementation partner, AST MSI is once again working with international partners to ensure that the customer gets a world-class production system with local support," says Ricky Huyser, Business Development Manager of AST MSI.
"In phase one we will be designing, producing and installing electrical and control infrastructure for the project that`s value extents into the millions."
"AST MSI`s track record and expertise in the automotive industry makes it the ideal partner for this project," says Peter Grunschlager, Project Manager of Wetron. "We look forward to working with them on this project."
