Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) has contracted AST ERP Solutions, a business unit of the JSE-listed AST Group, to implement SAP R/3 as an integrated solution for its information system.
The existing systems and processes at RBM, comprising a mix of software applications and platforms, did not support the organisation`s business optimisation plans. An SAP R/3 integrated information system solution, based on the Rio Tinto template, provided a fast and cost-effective way to remedy the situation, with minimum impact on the day-to-day running of the business.
RBM required a solution that would standardise its processes and provide consistent reporting. SAP R/3 was found to be the best solution for RBM`s requirements of integrating the company`s business processes, including its plan-and-manage, purchase-to-pay, manage-people and manage-physical-assets processes, on a new information system platform.
"For RBM, the greatest benefit lies in the fact that our information systems are now capable of supporting our business processes in key areas such as maintenance," says Herman Kok, Project Manager of RBM.
The project, commenced middle January 2003, includes training of RBM staff. "The Business Blueprint was completed at the end of February, and the integration tests were completed by middle May. Once this milestone was reached, training began. We expect the system to go-live on 1 July 2003," says Ockert van Schalkwyk of AST ERP Solutions.
