In a move to exploit available functionality in Vodacom`s SAP system and a need to revert back to a standard configuration, AST ERP Solutions has upgraded Vodacom`s SAP R/3 HR/Payroll upgrade from release 4,5B to 4,6C. In addition, Vodacom has appointed AST ERP Solutions as its SAP HR support provider.
The SAP upgrade has provided Vodacom with enhanced/updated functionality for its HR/Payroll information system, and has allowed for standardisation of non-standard functionality back to standard functionality.
During the initial implementation, Vodacom was left with many customised processes and functions. The upgrade will ensure that any future upgrade to Vodacom`s system remains standard and as simple as possible, therefore reducing effort and costs. The latest release of SAP software also provides more options and functionality for Vodacom`s processes.
"Moving away from non-standard to standard functionality means maintenance of systems is less and future upgrades will be simpler," explains Marlene Farmer, SAP HR Project Manager of AST ERP Solutions, a business unit of the AST Group. "Less maintenance also means the upgrade is more cost-effective for Vodacom.
"Not only did AST deliver accordingly, when Vodacom went `live`, there were no outstanding problems or issues that needed resolution," adds Farmer. "The implementation took three months to complete, a first for an HR/Payroll upgrade within this time frame while also moving back to standard functionality."
