Aster, Dell for cloud analytics

Aster Data has developed a joint solution with Dell for big data warehouses and advanced analytics, reports InformationManagement.

The offering combines Aster Data's advanced MPP data warehouse for data management and processing with Dell's cloud infrastructure solutions and services.

The combination of Aster Data nCluster and Dell's cloud infrastructure is proposed for customers who want to manage and analyse their data without assuming the responsibility that otherwise comes with deploying and managing a data warehouse and advanced analytics internally

Open source BI gains traction

The open source software movement has opened up a lot of new opportunities for companies looking to remain flexible and save costs in the business intelligence sector, which is being quickly dominated by mid-market companies, states InternetEvolution.

A recent Aberdeen Group survey found 48% of open source BI users have annual revenue of $50 million or less, whereas only 37% of the users of traditionally licensed BI products are that small.

Of the more than 300 organisations surveyed, almost 90% said they were using open source BI software alongside more traditional BI software.

Coremetrics releases Analytics 2010

Coremetrics plans to release an upgrade for its online marketing platform, Coremetrics Analytics 2010, complete with apps for Apple's iPad and iPhone, says MediaPost.

Companies will begin moving to the completely redesigned user interface in June. The backend, redesigned last year, supports reports and metrics, real-time data, collaboration and mobile access.

The dashboards with real-time performance metrics offer insights and recommended actions through visualisation tools that highlight conversion trends, and performance hot spots.
