With the new millennium fast approaching, Astre Automotive, the Australian importer and distributor of Hyundai, Chrysler Jeep and Audi vehicles recently took the opportunity to re-assess its information technology strategy and infrastructure to ensure its readiness for its year 2000 requirements. Additionally however, was the need for improved systems to continue to support the company`s impressive growth. In 1997, Astre`s turnover had grown to approximately A$1.4 billion.
To facilitate this growth, Astre recently moved to a new purpose built 4.49 hectares headquarters in Homebush Bay, adjacent to the Olympic site. In conjunction with the office move, Project Quest 2000 was launched, an IT strategy developed to provide an advanced integrated system designed to take the company to the Year 2000 and beyond and to provide it with the competitive edge it needs to compete in this fast moving marketplace.
The chosen core solution was JBA`s System 21 Financial, Customer Service, Vehicle System and Workshop Warranty Management System, with phase 1 scheduled to go live in mid-1999. This choice followed an extensive evaluation of the various tender responses that were submitted.
