Asus converges smartphone, tablet

Skatter Tech.

This convergent device combines a smartphone and a tablet computer into one symbiotic gadget that allows consumers to choose the screen size that best fits their activities while seamlessly sharing and 3G Internet access.

Cnet News says while Asus has not publicly made any specifications known, the Padfone will be a 4.3-inch smartphone coupled with a 10.1-inch tablet. The phone should be running on Android, and very likely to be Ice Cream Sandwich, which puts the release in the fourth quarter of 2011 or later.

Asus Padfone will release on Christmas and Google is excited, and not just because the Padfone will feature Ice Cream Sandwich, the next iteration of Android that can power both smartphones and tablets, reports Sawfnews.com.

At the Padfone debut, Asus VP and GM for the Personal Mobile Devices Business Unit, Benson Lin told Pocket-lint in an interview: “We are working very closely with Google and they are excited by the PadFone,”

According to Pocket-lint, Google's excitement over the Padfone's unveiling has another dimension, besides Ice Cream Sandwich.

According to News Den, the Padfone concept is similar to what was previously seen in the Motorola Atrix 4G and its lap-dock accessory, but unfortunately it didn't turned out to be a hit.
