AT&T wins government contract

AT&T Government Solutions has won a $292 million contract from the US Department of Homeland Security, reports FOX Business.

The award was made via the General Services Administration Networx Universal contract, a 10-year, $20 billion contract vehicle that allows AT&T Government Solutions and others to provide a full range of telecommunications and related network services to the federal government.

AT&T Government Solutions, which has 4 000 employees dedicated to serving the federal government, will serve as the secondary network service provider in the Eastern region as well as for the Western region for OneNet, an advanced, next-generation network.

Todd Abbott has joined Procera Networks' board of directors, states CNN Money.

Abbott, who was recently named Avaya's SVP of sales and president of field operations, brings a history of success directing multibillion-dollar operations across all global theatres.

He is a well-respected leader within the networking industry, and his experience at IBM, Cisco, Symbol and Seagate will help shape the future direction and success of Procera.

Suppliers of networking cables in mainland China and Taiwan forecast a stable market in the coming months despite potential production cost hikes due to rising raw material prices, particularly copper, says Global Sources.

Despite increased focus on USB and HDMI cables by some cable-makers, Cat 5 and Cat 6 networking cables, along with their variants, remain high on makers' product portfolios.

Some companies have expressed interest in investing in Cat 7 cables and fibre-optic cables, but it may take a few more years before the latter will eventually displace copper-based LAN networking cables.
