Johannesburg, 07 Jul 2003

Attachmate Corporation, 20-year veteran of legacy integration, has announced that its myEXTRA! Smart Connector Enterprise Edition has been verified for the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) application server from Sun Microsystems.

"Attachmate Connector tools and technologies deliver value by offering a non-invasive approach to programmatically integrating host data in e-business solutions," says Theo Fourie, MD of Attachmate SA. "Significant legacy investments are preserved - while new applications are created quickly, delivering immediate return on investment and giving business a competitive advantage."

Sun ONE is a standards-based software vision, architecture and platform for building and deploying services on demand. It provides a scalable foundation for traditional software applications and current Web-based applications, while enabling next-generation distributed computing models such as Web services. Solutions built on Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technology can maximise application reuse and increase enterprise developer collaboration.

Attachmate myEXTRA! Smart Connectors extend the reach of Sun ONE application servers by providing a vital link to information and business logic in legacy applications on mainframe and mid-range platforms. "myEXTRA! Smart Connectors provide secure, fine grain access to valuable legacy assets housed on back-end systems," adds Fourie.

"Based on open standards and the J2EE architecture, Smart Connectors provide a secure, convenient way to extend business processes by capturing the quality of service in legacy applications for reuse while developing new enterprise applications in the Sun ONE application server," notes Carla Dimond, senior group manager, Sun Microsystems.

"Attachmate`s solutions for real-time access to host information and business logic are designed to preserve the integrity of legacy applications while securely exposing legacy assets to new applications developed and deployed from the Sun ONE application server - all without making any changes to the host code," concludes Fourie.
