Data backup, retrieval and business continuity specialist, Attix5, has announced new functionality and added support for new operating platforms in the latest release of its locally-developed Backup Professional v3.4 product suite.
According to Gary Novitzkas, director of Attix5, "Some enhancements are in response to customer requests, while others were [GC1]dictated by the fast pace of technological development for example, support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Novell NetWare v 6.5".
Enhancements to Backup Professional include additional functionality relating to directory permission, mandatory files, remote file selection, command line backup and restore support, as well as enhanced administrator management tools.
"Version 3.4 also features enhanced patching functionality, allowing users to configure patching limits used during backup. When these limits are reached, the selected file is compressed and resent to the primary storage platform without trying to patch the already backed up file.
"This ensures that files that have changed significantly since the last backup are retransmitted rather than patched, freeing up processor time," Novitzkas says.
"We have also improved primary storage platform support by improving the load balancing between file servers, enhancing memory usage, and backup account portability between these servers," he adds.
