Local software development house, Attix5, recently released Backup Professional Server Edition, a secure, online backup system for corporate servers and databases. Backup Professional automates the offsite backup of critical data, securely and without human intervention, using existing connectivity to automatically transfer data to a remote storage system.
Enterprises can use Server Edition to complete the backup process without requiring tapes drives or other traditional backup media. Data is sent to another disk storage system over a secured connection, only sending changes to files once the initial backup is done, saving time, bandwidth and administrative costs.
Companies can decide to make use of their own resources and backup critical data to in-house servers or to remote servers hosted by the company; or the alternative is to outsource the backup and recovery process to an offsite service provider that will take charge of managing and hosting the backup systems.
Using the Internet infrastructure places less stress on corporate networks and reduces implementation costs. Attix5 encrypts all data before it is transferred over the global network to ensure the security issues often associated with the Internet are negated, and it encrypts the stored data, ensuring security on all levels.
Server Edition includes proprietary technology developed by Attix5 to overcome the traditional problems faced by IT administrators in establishing reliable server backup procedures. These include Very Large File Support (VLFS) to handle files over 4GB in size, SnapShot for large data transfers across limited bandwidth, open file management as well as specific support for Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.

Without any user intervention or interference, critical files are backed up to remote or local storage servers on connection - or at a time set by the administrator. In addition to Attix5`s normal encryption security, Attix5 Desktop and Laptop also supports Public Key Infrastructures (PKI).
When users experience some type of problem that will require data restoration, the process is simple and instantaneous. Multiple versions of files can be saved, allowing users to revert to a particular version - even if they are located in remote locations with only a dial-up connection to their office.
Desktop and Laptop as well as Server Edition have already been installed in SA and the UK, and Attix5 says there is a high demand for the product.
