AudioCodes introduces Mediant 1000 Multi-Service Business Gateway

Combining a VOIP media gateway and IP-IP gateway with security and data capabilities addresses new market opportunities in an all-in-one multi-service access solution.
Cape Town, 24 Jun 2008

AudioCodes, a leading provider of voice over IP (VOIP) technologies and Voice Network products, at the start of this month announced the introduction of its Mediant 1000 Multi-Service Business Gateway (MSBG) - a modular, all-in-one, networking device that combines a media gateway, enterprise-class session border controller, data router and firewall, LAN switch, WAN access, stand alone survivability (SAS) and an on-board general purpose server.

The Mediant 1000 MSBG is designed to address the needs of service providers and cable operators when offering IP-Centrex and SIP Trunking services, as well as the needs of distributed enterprises.

According to a recent In-Stat report, the multi-service business gateway market will grow from $1.2 billion in 2008 to $2.6 billion in 2011.

"With the introduction of the Mediant 1000 MSBG, AudioCodes expands its operations beyond the VOIP market to a new business communication market segment, creating new market opportunities, and further strengthening our position and market share in the customer premises equipment (CPE) market," stated Lior Aldema, Vice-President of Marketing and Product Management at AudioCodes.

"The market demand for integrated secured voice and data platforms such as the AudioCodes Mediant 1000 MSBG is growing rapidly," commented Joe McGarvey, Principal Analyst, Carrier IP Telephony Infrastructure, for Current Analysis.

"The integration of multiple networking functions in the same hardware platform simplifies the definition of the service provider demarcation point, and helps enterprises manage their network infrastructure using fewer vendors. Another strong feature of the AudioCodes MSBG is enabling secured SIP trunking using IP to IP session mediation, an integrated SBC and media transcoding, following the market trend of moving to SIP trunking and gradually replacing existing costly PSTN connections."

The Mediant 1000 MSBG simplifies installations and improves manageability for operators, by delivering a cost-effective network device at customer premises, eliminating the "finger pointing" that occurs with multiple stacked elements from different vendors where the point of demarcation is unclear.

For large distributed enterprises, the benefit of the Mediant 1000 MSBG lies in the ease of implementing secure and reliable inter-branch communication with an integrated product. For both service providers and enterprises, the Mediant 1000 MSBG's SAS features further guarantees continuous service offering and business continuity.

"The Mediant 1000 MSBG will expand the AudioCodes offering for our channel partners, system integrators and service providers," stated Lior Aldema. "Independent software vendors and OEM customers are utilising the integrated Mediant 1000 general purpose server to host their own or third party applications such as IP-PBX software, unified communications applications, Microsoft Mediation Server, and other innovative types of applications."

As a member of the well established AudioCodes Mediant gateway family, the Mediant 1000 MSBG is an evolutionary extension of the Mediant family and brings forward the AudioCodes technology expertise and interoperability certifications from a wide range of application partners.

This enables the Mediant 1000 MSBG to be used with a wide range of both IP-PBXs and TDM PBXs today. Utilising the recently announced availability of software version 5.4 for the AudioCodes Media Gateway family, existing AudioCodes customers can immediately capitalise on the first phase of the Mediant 1000 MSBG features which include VOIP peering and mediation. A further phased implementation of additional capabilities is planned for later this year.

AudioCodes has created a Web site landing page at www.audiocodes.com/MSBG, which includes all technical and marketing resources for the recently introduced Mediant 1000 MSBG.
