Automotive supplier Leiber chooses IFS Applications for flexibility, transparency

Johannesburg, 07 Nov 2003

Leiber, an automotive component supplier and manufacturer of special-purpose vehicles, will implement IFS Applications throughout its operations in Germany, Poland and Spain.

The contract, covering licences and implementation services, is valued at EUR1.8 million. Leiber will use IFS Applications components for product development, manufacturing, maintenance, financials and human resources.

Apart from manufacturing special-purpose vehicles, Leiber supplies die-forged aluminium parts for the automotive industry, where its customers include DaimlerChrysler, Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls Royce and Yamaha. Leiber is implementing IFS Applications to meet constantly increasing market requirements and ever-tighter delivery deadlines in the automotive industry.

Leiber expects the new system to increase transparency in its business processes and enable more efficient business control. Implementation is scheduled to start in November 2003. To begin with, all the company`s business processes will be modelled in IFS Business Modeller. Roll-out will start in Germany, with Poland and Spain following in a step-by-step manner. The system is expected to be live in the three countries in January 2005.

"We opted for IFS because IFS Applications gives us future-oriented technology and the necessary flexibility to expand our market lead still further," said Dr Rolf Leiber, representing Leiber management.

Before making its decision, Leiber spent nine months evaluating the offerings on the ERP market. The selection process was primarily based on workshops in which three suppliers had to map sub-processes. In the final round, IFS came out on top.

IFS has more than 100 automotive customers in Europe, the US and Asia, including Volvo Cars, Volvo Trucks, MG Rover, BMW, Mayflower Vehicle Systems, Finnveden Sheet Metal Components, Lotus Cars, KYB Manufacturing North America, Expert Components, Toyo Denki Seizo kk, Unipart Manufacturing Group, Timberjack, London Taxis International and VBG. Industry-specific processes, such as lean manufacturing, are handled via components covering Kanban, Kaizen Costing and Production Schedules.
