Avaya, a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services, announced that during the NATO Parliamentary conference held in late May in Vilnius, Lithuania, delegates were kept well informed of global security and defence developments by using Avaya`s site-specific voice and wireless data infrastructure.
The Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre was selected as the venue for the NATO summit for its beautiful gallery and because it provided a suitably tranquil setting for the meeting of the most powerful military alliance on the planet. But what the venue had in ambiance, it lacked in an effective communications infrastructure.
+ACI-The building simply did not have the communications infrastructure required for such an event. There was not a single useable cable installed to build up even a temporary data network,+ACI- said Darius Montvila, Avaya`s regional manager for Finland and the Baltics. +ACI-Across the Contemporary Art Centre site were high ranking individuals discussing such matters as science and technology, defence, economics and nuclear power, and so we had to ensure that the lack of cabling did not impede the ready flow of information.+ACI-
The Avaya solutions built up especially for the summit included an on-site wireless LAN enabling delegates to send and receive data anywhere from within the Contemporary Art Centre. To address voice communications, Avaya also installed a site-specific voice communications infrastructure powered by one of its DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server.
+ACI-Simply put, the entire installation worked perfectly,+ACI- said Dwight S Griswold, IT Manager for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. +ACI-With over 700 attendees, we were able to work with Avaya to ensure the smooth and consistent flow of voice and data traffic. Perhaps the truest test of a temporary installation such as the one supplied by Avaya, is that no one comments on it because it works as smoothly as a NATO delegate would expect. That was certainly the case here.+ACI-
The Avaya equipment was installed and managed by FIMA, an Avaya BusinessPartner in Lithuania.
