Leading information security expert, Axent Technologies has launched a sophisticated Millennium e-Security solution designed to protect companies from hackers and unauthorised users disrupting or hijacking critical e-business transactions.
Patrick Evans, managing director of Axent`s local business partner, Foster-Melliar, declares, "Worldwide studies indicate that electronic threats have reached epidemic proportions." Alarmingly, while incentives for severe exploitation are only starting to emerge, security frameworks of most basic computer systems and network infrastructures remain very weak.
Foster-Melliar is fast becoming a leading advocate in South Africa regarding enterprise security. Following daunting disclosures on a covert body of `electronic criminals` masterminding an ominous `millennium bug`, the company continues to urge businesses to implement proficient counter-measures. "The Y2K bug is by no means the only millennium threat," states Evans, citing the considerable increase in destructive computer viruses and hacker attempts.
Comprising two complementary products, Raptor Firewall and NetProwler, Axent`s Millennium e-Security solution significantly limits the odds of widespread damage. Facilitating a firewall and comprehensive network intrusion detection, the solution also offers a free one-hour risk assessment exercise valid until 31 December 1999. "This process is designed to simulate an authentic hacker attack to identify potential security cracks and assess the risk to business."
A recent study from the Gartner Group forecasts that the largest electronic theft in history, exceeding $1 billion, could occur as a direct result of Y2K problems such as holes in security systems. "Enterprise security has never been more crucial, and must be addressed well in advance of 31 December 1999," notes Evans. He adds that the persons responsible for safeguarding company networks cannot possibly afford to ignore the looming threat of Y2K. Besides this pressing urgency, taking precautions now will leave companies well-placed to address network security in the Internet-oriented future.
Concluding, Evans affirms that an IDC study has validated Axent`s status as the market leader for intrusion detection and vulnerability assessment software since 1998. Moreover, the Gartner Group acknowledges the company`s market leadership based on completeness of vision and ability to execute. "This industry acclaim reinforces Foster-Melliar`s ability, as Axent`s local business partner, to provide customers with trusted solutions for protecting critical e-business information."
