Leaf Industries, the sole value-added distributor in Africa for Axis Communications, today announced that Axis Communications had introduced the AXIS StorPoint NAS 100, a scaleable network-attached storage (NAS) appliance that enables easy connection of additional storage without involving a file server.
"In storage terms, traditional file servers are creaking at the seams under constant strain," said Ross Orwin, Business Manager for Axis Communications products at Leaf Industries. "The AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 meets growing demand for flexible, low-cost network solutions to meet burgeoning storage needs. It cuts implementation time from hours to minutes and provides instant relief for overworked file servers."
The AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 provides the broadest NAS connectivity solution for workgroup storage applications. It enables simultaneous multi-protocol support of NT, NetWare (including 5.x and NDS), UNIX, Web and OS/2 environments and heterogeneous file sharing between all operating systems. The server uses a Web interface and built-in set-up `wizards`, allowing quick installation within minutes.
Based on Axis` own ThinServer Technology, which integrates critical network functionality into the storage device itself, the AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 allows users to access and write to network attached hard disks simultaneously. End user offerings can start with as little as a single hard drive and scale up to multiple drive configurations. The AXIS StorPoint NAS 100 utilises an Ultra-Wide SCSI interface and includes support for mixed JBOD and RAID 1 configurations. In addition, integrators may also offer advanced tailor made RAID 5 solutions with pre-qualified SCSI RAID controllers, providing even greater data protection.
Axis expects that the StorPoint NAS 100 will infiltrate a broad range of user environments quickly, particularly those where file sharing and data backup are critical, and there is a need to minimise downtime when adding storage. Being cost-effective and straightforward to install and maintain, it represents an ideal way of adding storage capacity to branch offices as well as main office sites.
