Johannesburg, 11 Sept 2000

Leaf Industries, the sole value-added distributor in Africa for Axis Communications, today announced that Axis Communications, with its leading position in connectivity and mobile solutions, has decided to invest SEK 24 million ($2.6 m) in mobile printing, thereby doubling its investments in this new field of operation. The company`s mobile printing solutions have been favourably received in the market.

Earlier this year Axis and Ericsson demonstrated the first mobile printing solution for printing based on Bluetooth wireless technology. Axis also expects to announce new products and partnerships before the end of this year.

Mobile printing allows the user to print information and documents from mobile devices such as cellular phones, PDAs and laptops, without having to connect cords or setting up printing configurations.

"We have attracted more attention among our potential customers and partners than we ever imagined," says Per Adelroth, General Manager of the Document Division at Axis. "We feel the potential for growth in mobile printing is substantial and with this increased investment effort, we will be able to further strengthen our position as a leader in the mobile printing field."

Above all, efforts will be focused on product development, where Axis continues to work with Bluetooth mobile printing products. Another project is the development of a print server solution for wireless local networks, based on IEEE 802.11b, which is a new standard for wireless computer networks. New products are expected on the market during the first half of 2001. Axis will also increase its mobile printing marketing efforts.
