Axis debuts the first Bluetooth mobile printing solution

By Global Research Partners
Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2000

Leaf Industries, the sole value-added distributor in Africa for Axis Communications, today announced that Axis Communications recently demonstrated a prototype of the AXIS 5800 at the IBC Bluetooth 2000 conference.

This mobile print server is an external print server that allows virtually any printer to be able to print from devices that utilise Bluetooth technology. This represents the first view of a new family of mobile printing solutions expected to be available later this year.

"Axis is very proud that our work with Ericsson is driving Bluetooth printing solutions," said Per "Adelroth, General Manager of the Axis Document Division. "This first demonstration of such a solution highlights how Bluetooth wireless technology is set to revolutionise the nature of personal connectivity, freeing us from cables and making printers and portable devices more useful."

Earlier this year, Axis and Ericsson announced their co- operative effort to develop mobile printing technology, with Axis joining the Ericsson Developer Alliance program. The two companies will integrate their development with upcoming Bluetooth printing standardisation efforts, assuring seamless interoperability with future devices from other manufacturers.
