Axis introduces first professional video server supporting IPv6

Johannesburg, 29 Nov 2006

Axis Communications, the global leader in network video [1], has announced the AXIS 243SA Video Server, the first one-channel video server that supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

IPv6 is the evolutionary Internet upgrade that expands IP addresses from 32- to 128-bits, effectively allowing a massive increase in the available range of Internet addresses.

The AXIS 243SA provides de-interlaced video at full frame rates in both MPEG-4 and MJPEG compressions. It is ideal for installations that require full-motion video, such as casinos, airports, traffic surveillance and prisons.

The video server has integrated two-way audio functionality, which enables users to hear intruders and communicate orders. It supports dome cameras and pan/tilt/zoom cameras through a built-in serial port. The AXIS 243SA also features powerful event-management tools, including video motion detection, pre/post-alarm buffering, and triggered event functionality with alarm notification.

Roy Alves, Country Manager for Axis Communications South Africa, said: "Axis is committed to delivering future-proof network video products, a commitment evidenced by the addition of the market's first IPv6-compatible video server to our already broad video server portfolio. The AXIS 243SA delivers high-quality, full frame rate video, to meet the demands of customers converting from analogue CCTV to digital video in the fast growing IP surveillance market."

The AXIS 243SA is supported by the industry's largest base of application software through the Axis ADP program.

1. Axis Communications is the leading player in the network camera market with 47% market share in the EMEA region, according to industry analyst house IMS Research in its latest market report entitled 'The World Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment 2005 Edition' published in October 2005. The network camera market was worth $54.7 million in 2004 and is set to grow by 50% per year over the next five years to reach a value of $360.6 million in 2009, in EMEA alone, according to the same report.
