SCS Distribution, the sole distributor in Southern Africa for Axis Communications, today announced the introduction of Axis` new network print server, the AXIS 5900, designed for wireless printing using the IEEE 802.11b standard. With this introduction, Axis extends its line of wireless print servers to now include powerful solutions for both Bluetooth and WLAN networks.
Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b WLAN are two of the most promising wireless technologies that have received significant interest and industry support. While Bluetooth is rapidly gaining acceptance within mobile phones and short-range office peripherals, IEEE 802.11b has become the standard for LAN-centric wireless communication as a complement to wired infrastructures.
The AXIS 5900 network print server has been developed to address the growing demands from companies wanting the flexibility to wirelessly connect peripherals, such as printers, anywhere on the corporate network using WLAN technology. This flexibility is beneficial especially in common areas such as conference rooms where printers can be easily moved around and for businesses that are temporary in nature, ie project organisations.
The AXIS 5900 may be installed either as an IEEE 802.11b wireless or Ethernet-attached print server, offering the same extensive network protocol support and user-friendly interface as other Axis network print servers. AXIS 5900 is based on Axis` ThinServer technology, which provides an intelligent and versatile solution for wireless network printing and allows for central administration, easy installation and the ability to switch between network types; ie one single device may be used for both wired and wireless networks.
