Print expert, Roan Systems, has added a locally designed verification system to its suite of specialised bar code equipment. The B1 Verifier offers pinpoint accuracy on the job, checking bar codes either in static applications or as they're produced.
Frikkie Koegelenberg, CCO of Roan, is highly enthusiastic about the product. “This is unique!” he says. “It's a first, not only in South Africa, but also the world.” The verifier is capable of checking approximately 60 boxes per minute on the production line and complies with ISO/IEC/GS1/ANSI standards to produce a 'verification grade' that is relative to its scan-ability and decode-ability.
In addition to 100% verification on production runs, the B1 Verifier is flexible with regards to bar code size and orientation, and is suitable for print-and-apply applications as well as print on-demand. Despite the high speed of operation - the B1 Verifier can perform a number of 10-line verifications per second - cross-checking is incorporated along with simultaneous checking of multiple bar codes.
An additional benefit allows operators to pinpoint problem zones; faulty bar codes can be checked to locate the source of errors, so that it becomes easier to adjust printer settings or designs to improve the verification grade. Images can also be stored in order to be analysed at a later date. The system is also able to generate reports to provide feedback on each production run.
With bar code accuracy being a non-negotiable aspect of packaging requirements, the system provides peace of mind at point of origin. “The B1 Verifier is set to make a significant difference to the accuracy of our bar codes. The fact that it's a South African product makes it that much more appealing to us,” Koegelenberg smiles in conclusion.
