As the Apple Mac platform gains popularity in South Africa, especially with the release of the iPhone, Rein Hillmann from BB&D Johannesburg has established the first CocoaHeads chapter in Africa. CocoaHeads is a worldwide community devoted to the discussion of Cocoa development - the framework for programming on MacOS X.
With 50 chapters in 16 countries around the globe, CocoaHeads meet on a monthly basis to offer a mix of informal and interactive presentations, hands-on coding and discussion. “With few Mac development resources locally and growing interest, we want to provide a platform for members to share experiences, insights and techniques,” says Hillmann. “By offering support and a forum for like-minded developers, we hope to see Cocoa development really take off in South Africa.”
“BB&D is delighted to be associated with the CocoaHeads community,” said Peter Scheffel, BB&D executive. “We offer our full support to the initiative and believe that it is the start of an exciting future for Mac development in South Africa.”
The next local CocoaHeads meeting will be held at BB&D offices in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg on Thursday 5 February 2009.
