BBC open to regular NAO audits
The BBC Trust expressed its willingness to allow the National Audit Office (NAO) to regularly examine the corporation's accounts, says Digital Spy.
BBC Trustee Jeremy Peat says the BBC needs an auditor with a variety of experience in covering media, international matters, and commercial matters.
''We would be very happy to consider the NAO as our auditor if they wish to tender for contract when it is next renewed, which is likely to be around 2012," says Peat. The NAO audits all central government accounts.
Media Broadcast set for DVB-T2 trial
Germany national digital terrestrial television (DTT) operator Media Broadcast has chosen the T-VIPS CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway for DVB-T2 trials, states Broadcasting Engineering.
T-VIPS fills a gap in the DVB-T2 solution set for single-frequency network operation. The CP560 integrates with existing DVB-T headends and DVB-T2 modulators to enable DTT operators to take advantage of the bandwidth efficiencies of DVB-T2.
The bandwidth efficiencies can be used to launch additional SD and HD channels, to increase video quality or to improve portable and mobile reception.
Korea's quick awarding of licences
Korea's broadcasting and communications authority says it will make swift decisions about awarding new broadcasting licenses, writes Joong Ang Daily.
During a seminar on Jeju Island, Korea Communications Commission chairman Choi See-joong said the commission will announce its guidelines for the awards and will reach conclusions as fast as possible after the regional election.
“Since 1990, we have had multiple channels and media outlets, but network television still accounts for 70% of TV commercials,” Choi said. “We cannot improve competitiveness in such an inflexible market.” Korea currently has three network channels, as well as cable TV stations.
