A potential breach of BBC editorial guidelines has put an end to the manufacture of additional TomTom GO LIVE Top Gear units.
This is according to TomTom, which says a limited number of units will still be available in SA.
The 'limited edition' Top Gear navigational device features Jeremy Clarkson's voice and 'Stig mode', which automatically silences the device.
The company says launch plans were too advanced to prevent the product going on sale. TomTom also says that all the proceeds that would have been due to the BBC will be paid to the BBC Children in Need fund. TomTom says it will also make a “charitable” donation to the fund.
According to The Telegraph, Clarkson will not receive any money from the sale of the devices.
The company says the units will be available in SA from the first week of November. However, the digital download of the Top Gear features will not be released.
