BCA Barcode Alliance, South Africa`s leading supplier of barcode labelling and printing equipment, has partnered with Sourcecom Technology Solutions in a R500 000 deal to supply 58 barcode printers for clinics in the Western Cape.
The SATO CL408E printers will be used to control patient admission, billing, pharmacies and stores.
"When a patient visits a clinic for the first time their folder will be created and get a several sheets of printed barcode labels," explains Sourcecom`s Esme Johnson. "The labels are used on scripts, doctors` referral letters and all other documents to do with that patient; it`s a very effective way to track and manage patients and ensure that medical staff always have access to accurate information."
"The provincial government has already installed new barcode printers in the academic and main hospitals as part of their drive to improve patient management systems," says BCA`s Warren Scott. "Rolling the technology out to the clinics will enable them to follow patients all the way from first contact at the clinic through to any hospital they may be referred to."
The province has now specified SATO printers, for which BCA is South Africa`s premier distributor, as its preferred barcode printing technology.
