Beget expands in Australia

SMS delivery systems company Beget Holdings` has continued its international growth drive with the addition of an Australian office.

CEO Andr'e Potgieter says the need for the Sydney office arose out of advanced contract negotiations with several Australasian providers. There was also the need to provide a platform for 24-hour network support.

The operation, Beget Australasia, duplicates the South African facility, marketing the full range of the group`s products, which include a franchise-based marketing and communications business tool, a creator of databases of cellphone numbers and middleware products.

Potgieter says the office is being managed by LHD Holdings, which has expertise in global systems for mobile communications (GSM) applications and geographical information system (GIS) plotting and tracking management systems.

"The management of LHD Holdings have been involved in these fields for the past four years in Asia and Australia and bring a wealth of experience to the Beget fold," he says.

Beget Holdings will receive royalty income on all deals carried out by Beget Australasia.

Beget embarked on an expansion drive after listing on the JSE in December last year.

It has since set up operations in the Seychelles and the UK, and recently acquired the assets of Namibian communication software company Ianitor.

The group`s share has traded between 8c and 19c since the listing. It closed at 10c yesterday and was unchanged this morning.

Beget`s maiden results for the year to 31 December were better than a prelisting forecast, with revenue of R4.75 million and attributable earnings of R2.13 million. Headline earnings per share came in at 1.65c.
