BenQ: Passionate about Plasma

Johannesburg, 15 Mar 2004

BenQ`s plasma technology is forging new ground in clarity and precision with the ultra thin, flat BenQ 46W1-S 46" plasma display panel, ideal for home theatre enthusiasts and corporate users alike.

"The PDP 46W1 provides quality pictures, high illumination and great digital resolution in a body that is super slim and lightweight," says Manoj Tripathi, country manager: SA at BenQ. "For the home theatre, it presents full screen pictures and high-level sound quality. From a business perspective, the plasma unit enables superior presentations, advertising, shop-front displays, briefings, educational training and other commercial applications.

"There are a number of reasons why plasma displays are quickly replacing conventional television sets in thousands of homes and conference rooms," he continues. "Images are sharper, colours are more vibrant and with most plasma sets displaying both HDTV and DTV signals, as well as XGA, SVGA and VGA signals from a computer, the possibilities are endless."

Plasma displays have screens that are entirely flat, without any curvature to distort the image - even at the edges and corners. "This improvement, along with the 160-degree viewing area plasma displays offer, is sure to increase viewing enjoyment," Tripathi says. With their ultra-slim profiles, plasma displays can hang on just about any wall - even from the ceiling."

Plasma panels also provide high ambient light tolerance, distortion free images, completely digital technology and are not affected by magnetism.

The BenQ PDP 46W1 has a 46-inch, 16:9 wide-format display screen with a brightness of 700-cd/m2, a WVGA resolution of 852 x 480 (it can support up to XGA 1024 x 768) and an 850:1 contrast ratio. It features 3-2 pull-down recovery, de-interlacing, low grey level correction and BenQ`s dynamic white balance correction.

The display is HDTV compatible and uses the latest digital imaging technology featuring BenQ`s proprietary Digital Signal Processing technology. The plasma also provides Image Reverse function that automatically protects against images from a static picture being burnt in.
