Benson Crisps is already using JBA financials, warehousing and sales order processing software. To date these have not been integrated with its PC based manufacturing systems or its electronic data interchange (EDI) system. The lb34 million turnover company will soon have direct EDI links between its JBA systems and its customer base, which includes many of the major supermarkets and wholesalers. System conversion has already begun and will be complete by the end of the year.
Derek Lee, IT manager for Bensons Crisps said, "The new fully integrated system will help us run the business more proactively and efficiently because it will reduce time spent keying in customer orders. We previously had to enter information twice because our IT systems were not linked. This has been a problem when you consider we process 200 orders a day. The new system is the platform for our future. It gives us immediate year 2000 compliance and the chance to take advantage of JBA`s Active Enterprise philosophy when we choose. This will help us to identify and rectify automatically any problems that occur within our rapid response supply chain. The Active Enterprise will help us to operate on a Just in Time (JIT) basis", he added.
Bensons Crisps is the UK`s fourth largest chip and snack manufacturer. It employed eight people when it was formed in 1940. It now employs over 400 at its site in Kirkham, just outside Blackpool. It is a well known brand in its own right, and also produces many own label brands, together with character brands such a Beano, Dandy and Rug Rats. It is now hoping to achieve 100% customer service levels following its investment with JBA.
