Big league storage now also for SMEs from Fujitsu Siemens Computers

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced the imminent arrival of two new disk storage systems (file and print servers) for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Even the most exacting demands in terms of reliability, speed and availability will present no problems to the FibreCAT NX20 and FibreCAT NX40 models. Every product is fully pretested and preinstalled - and is therefore ready to run in minutes! Simple, centralised control of all management and administration tasks also makes the newcomers the ideal solution for deployment across different departments and branch offices. Both servers run the new Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 operating system, whose many useful add-on functions make life easier and data management more convenient.

The FibreCAT NX20 will ship as a tower model fitted with SATA II hard drives and the option of either one or two terabytes (TB) of preconfigured storage capacity. The model will deliver one of the best prices per terabyte on the market. Thanks to exceptionally quiet fans and an innovative ventilation technology that prevents unpleasant drafts and annoying noises, the FibreCAT NX20 slots easily - almost unnoticed - into any office environment.

The FibreCAT NX40 is a rack model in a housing with just two rack units (2U). The system can be fitted with high-performance SAS hard drives, delivering internal storage capacity of up to 1.2TB. Via fibre channel and SCSI interfaces, external systems can be hooked up to add even more storage capacity, with the FibreCAT NX40 then serving as a high-performance SAN/NAS gateway. Since the requisite software is already preinstalled in the FibreCAT NX40, the simplest option of all is to connect it to FibreCAT SX storage systems from Fujitsu Siemens Computers. iSCSI functionality is available as an option.

Both models use the Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 operating system, which boasts an array of sophisticated add-on functions especially for file and print server configurations. Superior system management, faster and more efficient file search functionality, and optimised file management and storage are just some of the many tangible benefits. Preinstalled and preconfigured systems can be managed using the integrated Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Every system setting that administrators and users will ever need can be made and adjusted conveniently on the MMC, while up-to-the-minute system information can be queried and tracked here too.

In line with Fujitsu Siemens Computers' "Dynamic IT for Branch Office Connection" strategy, both systems are ideal for centralised management of the data in distributed departments and branch offices. The RepliStor software available as an option from Fujitsu Siemens Computers quickly and reliably replicates the data stored on one FibreCAT NX system at head office onto a second system installed at another location.

The FibreCAT NX40 will be ready to ship in November 2006, the FibreCAT NX20 in December 2006. The two models will replace the FibreCAT N20i and FibreCAT N40i systems.
