Big savings for business leads to big praise as Mitel wins Internet Telephony Product of the Year Award

Mitel Communications Suite recognised for outstanding business value and innovation

Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2009

Mitel has won the Technology Marketing Corporation's (TMC) Internet Telephony magazine 2008 Product of the Year Award for the Mitel Communications Suite, a comprehensive software-only based communications solution residing on a Sun Microsystems server.

The Mitel Communications Suite can be deployed as a standalone unified communications system for business or as a key component of the combined Mitel/Sun thin client solution. It delivers a converged and simplified user experience that combines Sun's desktop virtualisation for computing with Mitel's IP telephony applications.

"Mitel has proven they are committed to quality and excellence while addressing real needs in the marketplace," said Rich Tehrani, TMC president and editor-in-chief of Internet Telephony magazine.

"We're proud to honour their accomplishments in the advancement of IP communications and look forward to more innovative solutions from them in the future."

"In a cost-conscious world, Mitel Communications Suite allows IT departments to implement and manage their unified communications environment on standard servers," said Andy Bull, director for Mitel South Africa.

"The seamless integration of applications and servers enables the vision of communications as a software-only service delivered from the data centre. Customers around the world are realising the ROI benefits of our combined solution."

The Mitel Communications Suite combines with the Mitel Unified IP Client for Sun Ray to provide unprecedented flexibility and security using thin client technology, to simultaneously deliver hot-desking for both voice and business applications. The solution can eliminate power-hungry desktop PCs, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency.

"The ability to manage Mitel's advanced telephony applications on Sun infrastructure offers a blueprint for businesses to enjoy the application benefits from two leading companies," says Julie Cork, Sun Canada's vice-president of strategy and business development.

"The combined solution can be seamlessly integrated into any customer's existing network to deliver a secure unified computing and communications environment."
