Bing takes on Foursquare, Facebook Places

Microsoft's Bing search engine has unveiled a new Windows Phone app called 'We're In' that will compete with location apps like Foursquare and Facebook Places, according to Silicon Republic.

The new location app will be coming to other device platforms like iOS and Android soon, Bing promises.

The new app 'We're In' for Windows Phone will initially only be available in the US. According to Philomena Lobo, product manager, Bing Maps and Bing Mobile, users only need their phone number to sign up before inviting friends via their contacts and sharing location info with each other.

You create a title, location and timeframe and send an invitation to people in your contact list. Users without Windows Phones can join via a Web link, reports Read Write Web.

The app allows participants to post status updates, and it displays their locations on a map, though they can tap 'leave' at any time and stop sharing their location. When the event expires, everything gets automatically cleaned up, and location sharing stops.

It's kind of like Glympse but with group messaging features.

The unofficial motto behind Windows Phone is “get in, get out, get back to life”. This app is a perfect example of the route that Microsoft has taken with designing Windows Phone and the services they provide to users.

They reduce the amount of required interactions in order to make getting information extremely fast and extremely simple. The newest update to Windows Phone, dubbed Mango, brings along some refreshing changes that enhance the user experience and ultimately aligns Windows Phone with it's competitors, says Techie Buzz.
