In response to the increasing concern over Internet security, APC has developed a biometric device for home users.
The Biometric Password Manager provides a secure way to manage and access multiple security codes and phrases, eliminating the need to remember passwords to access protected applications and Web sites, says the company in a statement.
Based on biometric technology, the password manager relies on fingerprint verification for access to restricted sites and applications, making unauthorised access virtually impossible, says APC.
The device is a straightforward fingerprint reader that is designed to register up to 20 individual users. APC has described this product as the "first biometric solution priced for the consumers` budget".
Based on AuthenTec TruePrint Sensor technology, the Biometric Password Manager is supported by OmniPass authentication software, which is simple to install and allows for quick switching between registered users` desktops, according to APC.
The OmniPass software also provides encryption for files and folders for additional security and is compatible with Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
