In an effort to drive transformation in the IT industry, the Black IT Forum (BITF) is a national conference on 30 October at the Indaba Hotel, in Fourways.

BITF is partnering with SITA, as well as its media ITWeb, to invite IT professionals, industry role-players and decision-makers to interact at the Black IT Forum National Conference, to discuss transformation in the IT industry.

Mthunzi Mdwaba, national chairman for the Black IT Forum, says the conference aims to drive skills development, thought leadership, enterprise development, and delivery. “To date, transformation on all fronts and BEE has taken place from executive suites and corner offices, and has not reached all the intended beneficiaries.”

The conference will examine the progression of the industry and the transformation mandate. “It is at this critical time that the Black IT Forum should continue to lead the way in actively transforming the sector, and ensuring the fruits of transformation are enjoyed by all intended beneficiaries.”

The BITF is an independent non-governmental organisation, although it does work closely with the government. The organisation was formed to address the poor representation of black professionals and business operators in the IT industry and to propel black people into the mainstream of the South African ICT industry.

BITF has a total membership of approximately 1 500 IT professionals and 100 student members.
