Sentech`s BizNet broadband network, which launched at the beginning of this month, will be commercially available in January.
Sentech`s network comprises two main service portfolios: BizNet and MyWireless.
The BizNet network uses Cambridge Broadband`s VectaStar equipment in the 3.5GHz licensed spectrum band and provides broadband access services to business customers.
UK-developed Cambridge Broadband`s VectaStar is a carrier-class broadband wireless platform designed for telecommunications and mobile operators.
"The BizNet offering will be commercially available in January and will cover the Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban and Nelspruit areas," says Marcel Steyn, marketing and sales division manager of Sentech.
Sentech has been testing the network for a considerable period, he says. "The platform will be used for all types of business customers such as government, corporations, SOHOs and SMEs.
"BizNet is based on existing technologies, such as VectaStar and Cisco, which have been combined to offer the first commercial business-oriented fixed wireless connectivity offering in SA."
He says this network will also be used to provide services to the State IT Agency (SITA), the nationwide government purchasing agency for IT services.
"Sentech was awarded this contract and we are finalising contractual agreements with SITA," says Steyn.
