Black Box unveils NAC solution
Black Box, a provider of voice communications and data infrastructure, has unveiled the Veri-NAC network access control appliance family designed to prevent network security breaches, according to CBR.
The company says Veri-NAC only lets authorised computers and devices onto a defined network and also checks to make sure each connected machine complies with specified standards, including up to date operating system, patch management, and hardened configurations.
Additionally, if a device is deemed to contain vulnerabilities, it can be locked out of the network except for the resources the user needs to bring the computer into compliance.
StillSecure releases Safe Access upgrade
StillSecure, a provider of secure network infrastructure solutions, has released the upgrade to Safe Access, the company's NAC solution, states IT Business Net.
Safe Access now offers eight access control options - from whitelist to blacklist with six "grey" options in between - which allows administrators to granularly manage all network user types.
In addition, it incorporates improved endpoint activity monitoring with expanded search capabilities and streamlined display information enable quick isolation and management of "flagged" endpoints.
NAC to secure UNM
Some have complained that network access control (NAC) is slowing them down, while others say NAC installs malicious software onto their computers, reports DailyLobo.
NAC is a computer network security technology recently implemented at the University of New Mexico, which will eventually check to make sure that computers trying to get onto the network have applied the latest operating system patches and have anti-virus software installed that are up to date.
NAC was applied to Lobo WiFi and to the wired access in the student residences to ensure the availability of the university's computer network.
