Black Duck highlights OSS healthcare
Black Duck Software has released a podcast analysis of 800 open source health IT projects gleaned from its KnowledgeBase, concluding it represents $6 billion in development effort, says ZDNet.
Along with the “usual suspects” like VistA and OpenEMR, the Black Duck report highlights such projects as PatientOS, an EHR system now being expanded into a full hospital suite; tkfp, a family practice system developed in, Iowa, and dcm4che, a Java-based image management system.
Many practices don't pursue open source solutions because their business is complex and learning the software can be hard.
NMS intros Web-based software
Noteworthy Medical Systems has unveiled an online software application aimed at giving doctors the means to collect from patients what could have become unpaid bills, reports MedCity News.
The application, called NetPay, is powered by technology from mPay Gateway of Minneapolis, Minn.
NetPay can be plugged into Noteworthy Medical's practice management software, one of several technologies and services that enable doctors to manage their electronic health records and transactions.
