BlackBerry desktop available for Mac

RIM announced that a version of its smartphones' desktop software will be released this September for Apple computers, reports CNET News.

According to the smartphone maker, users will be able to sync their iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes, and tasks from their Mac.

Users will also have the option of adding applications, updating the BlackBerry when new software is made available, and managing multiple handsets on their Apple computers.

Free iPhone mirror app

Inner Four, a company that has 150 programs in Apple's App Store, usually devotes a couple of months to create a major app. However its biggest success so far has been one that one engineer spent just one hour on, states The Wall Street Journal.

The ad-supported free app, called Mirror Free, is essentially a black empty screen framed by a picture frame.

If a user peers closely into it, the reflection off the screen can create an effect like a mirror.

Toshiba goes Blu-ray

Toshiba has confirmed its plans to produce its own Blu-ray disc player, says PC World.

Previously, rumours trickled in about Toshiba considering such a move; Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Toshiba will adopt the format it once battled against.

The format war was vigorously fought, as Toshiba and Microsoft backed HD DVD, and Sony, Panasonic, and a consortium of consumer electronics companies promoted Blu-ray disc.
