BlackBerry gets rugby apps
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has unveiled two new apps for rugby fans as part of its sponsorship deal with the Wallabies, Technology Spectator.
The MyRugby App allows people to buy tickets, check out player profiles as well as access updated team information such as match results, competition standings and news about upcoming matches.
The second app, dubbed MyRugby TV offers behind the scenes footage and exclusive player interviews.
According The Daily Telegraph, as part of a new IT partnership between the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) and Research In Motion, all Wallabies players and coaches have been given souped-up Blackberry Playbook tablets and phones and are already using them in their World Cup preparation.
Trainings have been filmed using the Playbook and the footage immediately reviewed (in the middle of the field) for any problems that need fixing.
MyRugby TV will broadcast exclusive player interviews, in-camp footage, media conferences and insights from the coaching team reports Smart House.
“These new applications provide fans with instant access on their BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets to up to date information and behind the scenes content, which allows them to stay informed about Rugby,” ARU MD and CEO, John O'Neill, says.
“We know people are changing the way they get their rugby news and connect with the Qantas Wallabies and their favourite Super Rugby teams, which is why we have been working with Research In Motion to develop these applications before the International Season kicks off.”
ARU has also been working with RIM to develop a new technology that will help the Wallabies train smarter in one of the most important years in Aussie rugby history.
