Blackra1n jailbreaks iPhone OS 3.1.2
iPhone OS hacker, GeoHot, has released Blackra1n, a jailbreak utility for iPhone OS 3.1.2, reports CNet.
The new utility, for Windows only, follows on the heels of Purplera1n and can be downloaded immediately. Windows users can use it to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 on all iPhone and iPod Touch models, regardless of the hardware generation.
Using the application is simple; just plug in the iPhone or iPod Touch using the standard USB sync cable.
Moon bombing successful but uninteresting
Nasa last week slammed two probes into the moon, striking the lunar surface at more than 8 000km per hour. The space agency calls the probe a success, but is still puzzled over what happened to the expected 10km-high debris plume, says eWeek.
The lack of a plume disappointed a worldwide audience watching on Nasa TV and the Internet. Nasa's live feed tracked the rapidly descending LCROSS to just before impact and nothing more.
The live feed turned to static. Reports from virtually every available Earth-based and space-based telescope failed to show either an impact flash or a plume.
Web mail breach ups spam
A huge spike in Web mail spam was detected after passwords were published last week, states SecureComputing.net.
Following news that thousands of Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo passwords were stolen and posted online, Websense Security Labs has detected a marked increase in the number of spam e-mails, which have been sent from Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail accounts over the last few days.
It claimed the spam e-mails are being sent from user accounts to contacts in their address book, so people will think the e-mail came from a friend or known contact. This spam e-mail recommends a product and invites the reader to click on a link to a fake shopping site to buy the goods.
Space clown hosts global show
Circus entrepreneur and "first clown in space" Guy Laliberte hosted a global artistic performance from the International Space Station (ISS) over the weekend.
Laliberte introduced artists and speakers from 14 countries in a two-hour show aimed at drawing attention to global water shortages, reports BBC. Al Gore, Bono and Salma Hayek were among those involved.
The founder of the Cirque du Soleil theatre company is near the end of a 10-day tourist visit to the ISS.
