Point-of-sale solutions developer DigiPoS Systems Africa has rolled out its Retail Blade technology in SA.
National sales manager Regan Atkins says the Retail Blade is a point-of-sale platform based on blade technology, which allows for maintenance and replacement of the motherboard and hard drive by non-technical in-store personnel.
In April, the system was deployed across the UK`s giant retail chain, Next, by the Johannesburg-based company`s UK office, DigiPoS Systems UK.
"The Retail Blade system is now available in SA and we are ready to implement it for potential clients who are seeking new point-of-sale solutions that can be tailored to their specific needs," Atkins says.
He adds that the company has concluded a successful pilot programme, which tested the Retail Blade solution in a live environment.
"The product is on the go and the response has been positive. This is the same technology that captured Next, in the UK, and we are now keen to achieve a large-scale uptake in this country," Atkins states.
DigiPoS earlier revealed it is planning to initially target top-level second-tier retailers with the Retail Blade technology, but is also aiming to target SA`s major retailers in the near future.
Atkins points out that system uptime directly impacts a retailer`s bottom line and the DigiPoS Retail Blade is designed to be serviced and upgraded - in-store by non-technical staff, with no tools, in less than three minutes - without uncabling any peripherals or moving the installation of the system.
The Retail Blade has a replaceable motherboard and hard drive, enabling quick upgrades, repairs or maintenance, he says, adding that the technology allows retailers to maintain a core stock of replacement motherboards and replace or upgrade in-store in less than 60 seconds.
Atkins says the Retail Blade technology allows for none of the peripherals to be disturbed and the "host" system to remain in place, cutting the downtime and virtually eliminating the costs of conventional maintenance.
