Blausen iPhone app educates patients

Some medical treatments and procedures are almost sci-fi in nature, and are difficult to explain quickly and concisely. Accordingly, patient education is receiving increasing emphasis.

So says Bruce Blausen, CEO of Blausen Medical. “A major challenge facing the medical community is that both doctors and nurses are increasingly strapped for time; the pressure is on to see more patients during any given shift.”

In contrast with this, explains Blausen, is a population that is increasingly interested and proactive in getting understandable information concerning their loved ones' individual condition and treatment.

To this end, mobile medical tools such as the recently unveiled Blausen Human Atlas iPhone app are putting powerful information sources right at the point of care, states Blausen.

“These tools make it easy and fast to deliver a large amount of educational information, whether it's about proper medications or specific procedures, in an engaging and understandable way,” he adds.

“Mobile medical tools will streamline the patient education process, insuring that doctor, nurse and patient have access to the same information, delivered in a consistent and understandable way.”

The Blausen Human Atlas iPhone app allows patients to watch any of the 150 3D animations of common conditions and treatments, gaining an understanding of the core concepts from hip replacement to prostate cancer.

“Such education makes patients and their support groups more comfortable, and reduces stress and anxiety about the unknown,” concludes Blausen.
